AN ADVENTURE IN MOVING

By legal decree you got half
and being you, you took no more.
the papers were signed, the lawyer paid, the notice printed
and being me, I was not sure but insisted
The day came that you were to take your half and go
and being you, you were efficient
and being me, I could not face it or you. So
ninety miles away, in another woman's arms, I wept
and being me, I wept long for the death of us.
Your truck passed three miles from me weeping
in another woman's arms,
and being me, I saw your reflection in the windshield
and being you, you smiled bitterly at the logo: U-HAUL
"an adventure in moving."
